CD Digipaks and Album Covers

A CD digipak must be fashionable, attractive and appeal to an artist's target audience. It is made out of custom printed card packaging that can hold one or more CD's, usually having an artists album photoshoot inside the CD pack. It is usually the size of 4.75 x 4.75 inches. The front cover of the album is meant to show the image of the artist and usually the album title and the artists name put on it. This makes it easy for fans to find the album because their favourite artist is on it and it is easily recognisable. The front cover also serves a purpose of a protective sleeve and indicates the genre of the album and represents the artist. On the album itself it should have track listings, record label information and contact information. CD digipaks have in common that they are all printed on card, making them more special than your stereotypical album. They were originally only limited edition, which hyped up fans to buy it. They also are usually made out of roughly 6 pictures. I think that CD's are not so relevant anymore because of the increase in technology and how everyone just downloads their music now. Album covers are very relevant because they show the artists star image and represents their genre very clearly. As you see on Justin Bieber's CD digipak, he has had a whole photoshoot in the same colour scheme and this continues through the whole album. He has the classic symbolic convention of the track listing being on the back of the album, and attractive pictures of him on the front and inside of the digipak.
